The Fountainhead Montessori Schools provide education to young children through a rounded, reality-based teaching approach at five campuses in California, including Dublin, Orinda, and Pleasant Hill. The Pleasant Hill campus offers a before- and after-care program for children who require longer days at school or whose parents work long hours.
The program presents children with a learning environment designed to engage them throughout their stay in areas set aside in the classroom for dramatic and constructive play, art, and reading. Children also participate in various exercises during daily circle time, when instructors guide them in special projects, songs, movement activities, and expressive language games. Snacks are provided during both morning and afternoon sessions in the form of breakfast and individual snack time.
Goals of the program are building relationships with others, fostering individual expression, and reinforcing lessons learned in the classroom. The program offers opportunities for children to utilize information and skills learned during normal school hours and reinforce new vocabulary through repetition and communication activities. Children strengthen their social skills by taking turns and learning to play and cooperate with children in different age groups. After-care classes also include playground and outdoor activities that allow for muscle growth and the development of fine motor skills.
